GSPCSD GENERAL MEETING INFORMATION

 

The September 8, 1998 GSPCSD Meeting was held at the Fidler’s home in Bonsall, Ca. It was voted to dispense with reading the minutes of the August meeting. Members thanked the Fidler’s for opening their home to the membership for the meeting and furnishing the delicious homegrown turkey. Thanks to all the members to brought great side dishes. The desserts were also fantastic and plentiful. Ken Yenter & Don Barthel will set up the next meeting to be held at:

Seating will begin around 6:00 p.m., in the back room, for members wishing to order dinner. The general meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m.

GSPCSD FIELD TRIAL

Don Fidler, Field Trial Chairman, reported the next GSPCSD Field Trial will be held February 13th and 14th, 1999, at San Jacinto. He has received Parent Club, AKC and grounds approval. Don will be looking into judges for the event.

GSPCSD HUNT TEST

Doug Farrell reported on the October 10th and 11th Hunt Test, which will be held in Love Valley. Doug will be viewing the condition of the grounds before the event. Doug will judge on Saturday with Steven Ross and Hank & Dee Hartnek will judge on Sunday. Don Barthel, Ken Yenter and Jim Philips will be our gunners. Gabby Awbrey has volunteered to plant birds and Don Barthel will pick up donuts for the Saturday and Sunday club hospitality. A Saturday Marshall and someone to bring in extra water are still needed for. We have sent out 180 premiums. Members should be receiving theirs soon. Anyone who has not received a premium and wishes one should contact Doug Farrell. Fred has contracted 150 birds  for the event.  If members are interested in buying birds, let Doug know. We will be asking for 8 administrative parking passes for judges, gunners and chairman for the event. A free coffee and donuts will be served at 7 am and the event will start at 8 am. Lunch will be provided for purchase on Saturday and Sunday to all exhibitors. All club workers will receive a free lunch. Members and helpers will be allowed to train their dogs after the last brace.

GSPCSD SPECIALTY SHOWS

The next Specialty Show will be held November 6, 1998 at the Rancho Santa Fe Polo Grounds. Volunteers are:

Raffle Chairman - Lea Plaut
Photographer - Don Barthel
Catalog Ad Chairman - Don Barthel
Members are asked to find at least one person or business to advertise in the Specialty Catalog.

MAY SPECIALTY SHOW.

May 1999, Specialty Show will be held at Lake Skinner which is located in Temcula off Rancho Calif. Rd. We have sent in the money required to reserve the grounds. The Riverside Club has reimbursed our club for their half of the fee. The GSPC of Riverside will hold their Specialty Show on Saturday and our club will have Sunday.   We will be offering 2 combined Specialty Shows at the same grounds which also allows overnight RV parking for $18.00 a day, a store, a restaurant, gas pumps and a pool as well as fishing and boating. Paperwork for both club’s has been sent into the Parent Club for approval. After we work out other details, including classes offered and judges both club will send in paperwork to AKC for approval.

GSPCA   NATIONAL CATALOG & NEWSLETTER

Leanne put together an ad and presented it to the club for approval at the September 8th meeting. It is club policy to support all Parent Club Nationals by placing a club ad in their catalogs.The full page ad is to be placed in the GSPCA National Catalog for a cost of $100.00.

The GSPCA sent the club their newsletter which members were welcome to review. Any members who would like to see the newsletter can either contact Leanne Farrell or view it at the October meeting. The GSPCA Newsletter has information on their board meetings, discussions, rulings and up-dates on all business relating to our Parent Club and GSP’s; including GSP’s inducted into the GSPCA Hall of Fame. One inductee into the GSPCA HALL OF FAME was Ken & Inge Clody’s GSP, Oxton Minado’s Inga Von Greif, congratulations for such a prestigious honor.

HUNTING & PICTURES

Don Barthel reported on a Pheasant Family Hunt which will be held October 17 & 18. Anyone wishing more information, offer use of their dogs or wishing to sign up, contact Don Barthel at (619) 475-8746.

Don Barthel also mentioned that in the summer issue of Spaniels In The Field, there are 3 full pages of his pictures along with others scattered through the issue.The pictures were taken at the Springer Spaniel Club of Southern Ca. spring hunt test and Clumber Spaniel National Hunt Test.

GSPCSD DIRECTORY

The 1998 GSPC of San Diego Directory is out. The directory includes member information as well as other club related numbers. If any members have not received one or would like to add or change information, contact Leanne Farrell, Directory Editor, at (619) 748-2624.

HANDLING CLASS

Show Handling Class is now available to all GSPCSD members. Classes will be held every Friday from 6:30-7:30 PM in Lakeside. Classes are  FREE to all members and Juniors wishing to learn how to show their dog, as well as members who just wanting to work their dogs. NATIONAL BEST OF BREED WINNER

Congratulations to the Best of Breed winner at this years GSPCA National Specialty Show. Both the owners and breeders of Toby are GSPCSD members:

(Ch. Maekenet’s Flying Persuasion ex Ch. Minado’s I-M Precious Crystal)
Owners: Reggie & Barbara Caron, Handler: Valerie Nunes, Breeders: Leanne Farrell & Inge Clody.

Toby defeated over 800 GSP's. He also received GSPCA Show Dog of the Year Award (For the 3rd year in a row) and GSPCA Show Producing Sire of the Year. Toby’s daughter, Becky, went BOS at the NSS! Way to go Barbara and Reggie.
