PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT:
Lee feels so strongly that parental involvement is an essential attribute that it has always been a component of its Campus Improvement Plan. Parents are involved as a part of the CIT, in a very strong VIP program, and as tutors in the Focus on First Grade Program. Another signification method of engaging parents is by utilizing a school wide folder. Once a week every teacher communicates with parents by sending home a folder which details student performance, attendance and behavior. This folder must be signed by the parent and returned to the teacher.
Believing that the parent is the child's first teacher, Lee elementary
committed itself to enhance the education and welfare of its community
by establishing a Community Learning Center at the heart of the school.
It is in this center that many parent programs have either been scheduled,
or have been planned. The Center is the hub of many of the programs
which the faculty believes can have a direct effect on the learning process
of the community. Many of the programs which have been scheduled
are facilitated by various public agencies in town. Since one of
the more important ingredients in the child's education is the parent,
we have scheduled the following programs which help enhance the education
and awareness of the parent.
| ESL Classes | Monday-Thursday |
| Laubach Literacy Program | Tuesday and Thursday |
| Parent Program | Tuesday (weekly) |
| Family Resource Management | Thursday (weekly) |

VOLUNTEERS IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS:
Lee School and a total of 41,698 volunteer house in the 1996-97 school year, and we placed 7th in the number of VIPS hours in the El Paso Independent School District. Our PTA membership was 422.
Because of its commitment and because of Lee's success in making the school's environment non-threatening and inviting, the school has been able to raise its parents' appreciation of education by actively involving them in the educational process. This makes Lee School unique and exemplifies innovation toward excellence in student achievement.
