Black Bear

This large omnivore prefers to stay in mountainous, forested areas but will come to the desert floor, and even into cities, when food and water are scarce. Bears feed upon a wide variety of plant and animal matter.
Cougar

Also called the mountain lion, puma or panther. This is the top predator of the Northern Chihuahuan Desert. While he prefers to stay in isolated areas away from human habitation, the cougar will, when driven by hunger or thirst, come into the outlying areas of cities within its range. They feed on other animals, ranging from deer to small rodents.

Javelina

Also called a collared peccary. This animal looks very much like a pig but is not, although they are related. They are omnivores and feed on a wide variety of plants and small animals. They will even eat prickly pear cactus pads - spines and all.
