LOST PELICAN

Lost Pelican

Imagine the astonishment of motorists along the Interstate Highway in southern New Mexico when they spotted this pelican walking south along the shoulder of the road! The middle of the Chihuahuan Desert is the last place one would expect to meet a sea bird. Eventually, he was found by New Mexico Department of Fish and Game and transfered to a rehabilitator. The bird had suffered a wing injury and was unable to fly. Despite several months of care the pelican never recovered the ability to fly and was transfered to a New Mexico Zoo where he will spend the remainder of his life.

Warning: If you discover a wild animal acting abnormally, contact wildlife officials or a wildlife rehabilitator. Attempt rescue yourself only if a trained person is not immediately available. You could endanger yourself or the animal.
