BABY KESTRELS

American Kestrels

These birds were turned over to wildlife rehabilitators in Las Cruces, New Mexico, after their nest was destroyed during tree trimming. One of the rehabilitation people familiar with raptors took over their care until they were old enough to fend for themselves in the wild.

If you must trim your trees, try to do so before the spring nesting season begins to avoid such incidents as these.

If you do encounter a baby bird that has apparently fallen from its nest confine your dogs or cats and call an experienced person for advice. In the El Paso - Las Cruces area the Chihuahuan Desert Wildlife Rescue dispatcher can be reached at (505) 882-2910. You will be guided through procedure to follow that will best help the bird and, when necessary, an appropriate person will be sent to your address to assist you.
