GREAT BLUE HERRON

Great Blue Herron

This herron collided with a windshield of a car on the campus of New Mexico State University. It was taken to a veterinary clinic for x-rays and an examination before being delivered to the Chihuahuan Desert Wildlife Rescue for rehabilitation. Unfortunately, the bird only lived for a week and a necropsy showed that there was serious tissue damage close to the heart as a result of the collision and there was nothing anyone could have done to save it. It is shown here being assisted in feeding on fish.
