Cattle Egret
No one knows how the cattle egret became established in North America. This native of the African plains has adapted well
to life in the southern United States and huge flocks are frequently seen foraging in fields and pastures of west Texas and southern
New Mexico. This animal was captured in the Rio Grande Valley of south-central New Mexico. After about two months of recuperation
from an injured wing it was again released to join his companions.
Warning: If you discover a wild animal acting abnormally, contact wildlife officials or a
wildlife rehabilitator. Attempt rescue yourself only if a trained person is not immediately available. You could endanger
yourself or the animal.
