Bald EagleThis adult male bald eagle was found near Chloride, New Mexico, and delivered to Chihuahuan Desert Wildlife Rescue rehabiltators in Las Cruces on Feb. 10, 1999, by a New Mexico Game and Fish warden. After an initial examination and, once the bird had been stabilized, it was flown (free) by Mesa Airlines to a raptor rehabilitation center in Corrales, New Mexico. There it was cared for by Shirley Kendall and Dr. Kathleen Ramsey. Unfortunately, the bird expired on Feb. 14. Blood tests revealed the eagle had died of lead poisoning. The male bird is thought to be part of a group of four eagles (two pairs) that have been spotted in the area. |
