FALL FESTIVAL OF DANCE

The El Paso Independent School District Dance Teachers presented their annual holiday gift to the community, Fall Festival of Dance at the Chamizal National Memorial Theater, 800 S. San Marcial, 7:00 PM Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998.  This traditional concert series is hosted by Bowie High School dance company Xochipili.  The Fall Festival of Dance for 1999 was scheduled for Dec. 9, 7:00.  Admission was free!

This year also included a special performance celebrating El Paso’s Quadricentennial. This Collage of Cultures is the first in a series of three concerts during the school year 1998-99, sponsored in part by a grant from the EPISD Fund awarded to Ms Becky Rankin from Coronado High School.  Each participating high school chose a different culture to study and incorporated their findings in a dance reflecting the importance of that culture to the history of El Paso.  Ballet, folk, and modern dance  shared the stage with Classical Spanish and jazz dance. This collaborative project integrates the curriculum through a celebration of dance. The next performance of a Collage of Cultures is scheduled at the El Paso Community College, Transmountain Campus Feb. 19, 7:00, admission free.  The last performance can be seen at the Coronado High School Auditorium Thursday, March 25, 7:00, admission free.  Join us!

SPRING FESTIVAL OF DANCE

March 10, 7:00 at the Chamizal National Memorial Theater.  All dance styles are welcome in our invitational spring gathering.  Guest performances this year will include dancers from Canutillo and Ysleta Indpendent School Districts in addition to ensembles from private dance studios. This event is free to the public, hosted by Bowie High School dance company Xochipili.

Bowie Folklorico Tenochtitlan will host their 7th annual Folklorico Festival this spring by inviting folklorico groups from across the Rio Grande valley to join them on their stage.  This international gathering of folklorico dancers is a treasured tradition from segundo barrio.  Our custom truly celebrates Baile on the Border.  The annual fundraising event hightlights performing groups from throughout the El Paso/Juarez area.  The festival takes place every year at Bowie High School in the big gym.  Join our Fiest Primavera Friday April 9, 1999!  Local mariachi groups, including Bowie’s own Osos Orgullosos, will begin the festivities at 5:30.  Dancers will represent states and regions from all over Mexico through costumes, customs, dance, and music. Tickets will be sold at the door for $3.00 each, or 2 for $5.00.  Please contact Deitra Lied at Bowie High School for more information about registration. Registration deadline is Tuesday March 30, 1999 for inclusion on the T-shirts and program.  One free T-shirt will be issued with each registration!  Keep the tradition alive!
